Rose quartz has a very long trade history and a surprisingly thin paper trail. The Romans worked it, the Egyptians are reported to have ground it into face masks, and the line you will read on every crystal site, that Mesopotamian beads date it to 7000 BC, traces back to no excavation report anyone can produce. It is old. Exactly how old is lore rather than record, and we would rather say so.
The pink is not dye and it is not iron. It comes from microscopic borosilicate fibers threaded through the quartz, and those fibers are why the stone is cloudy. A perfectly clear pink quartz is a different and much rarer material.
