Description
Silver sheen obsidian is volcanic glass with a layer of microscopic gas bubbles trapped inside it, all lying flat in the same plane. Light hits that layer and comes back as a sheet of silver that slides across the bead as you turn your wrist. Nothing was added to it. The sheen is a record of how the lava was moving when it froze.
Obsidian was the first mirror. Cultures from Anatolia to Mexico polished it into reflecting surfaces thousands of years before glass, and the scrying mirror that belonged to John Dee, now in the British Museum, is an Aztec obsidian disc. The silver sheen variety is the one that still looks the part.
It is worked for shadow work and for scrying, which are two versions of the same job: looking at what is there instead of what you would prefer. The silver makes it gentler than plain black obsidian, which is worth knowing before you start.
How to Wear It
- Turn the beads in the light before you do any inner work. That is the whole ritual and it is enough.
- Wear it for the session and take it off afterward if you want the session to end.
- Keep it away from heat. Obsidian is glass and it will craze.
