Description
Obsidian is the odd one on a crystal shelf, because it is not a crystal. It is glass: lava cooled so fast that the atoms never had time to arrange themselves into a lattice. No structure, no cleavage, and a fracture so fine that obsidian scalpels cut cleaner than steel ones and are still occasionally used.
That sharpness is not a metaphor somebody invented later. Every culture with obsidian made blades out of it first, and the associations that grew up around the stone follow the blade: cutting, revealing, separating what is yours from what is not.
It is worked for cord cutting, for boundaries, and for looking at a thing directly. It is not a gentle stone and it does not pretend to be. If it feels like too much at first, that is a common report.
How to Wear It
- Wear it when you are ending something rather than while you are still deciding.
- Take it off afterward. Obsidian is a tool, not a residence.
- Keep it away from heat. It is glass and it will craze.
