Description
A death moth carved in silver sheen obsidian. The sheen is caused by microscopic gas bubbles trapped when the lava cooled, all lying in the same plane, so the whole piece flashes silver at one angle and reads black at every other. Tilt it and it changes.
Obsidian is volcanic glass and a stone of clarity. It is worked to release what has settled and gone stagnant, to draw out tension, and to ground someone who has been running on nerves. It has a long reputation for showing you the thing you have been declining to look at, which is why it belongs on a moth.
The death's-head moth carries a skull pattern on its thorax, which is an accident of biology that folklore has never once let go of. It is the creature of ending and remaking rather than of death on its own, and it flies at night toward whatever light it can find.
