Description
A crescent setting around a piece of genuine Czech moldavite, and the pairing has a certain logic to it: the moon is the other object in this shop that got here by impact, since the leading explanation for how it formed is a collision between the early earth and something roughly the size of Mars.
Moldavite is a tektite. Terrestrial sediment melted by the Ries impact in Germany about 14.7 million years ago and thrown four hundred kilometres east into what is now the Czech Republic, cooling as it fell. There is one strewn field and no other source.
Supply is the reason to say something here rather than nothing. The Bohemian pits are worked out or worked nearly out, commercial digging has largely stopped, and the difference between a real piece and a green bottle glass fake is not visible to most people. Ours carry a gemologist's certificate.
How to Wear It
- Each stone is a different shape, so the crescent frames a genuinely one off piece.
- Wear it short at first if you are new to moldavite. Most people who work with it advise that.
- Keep the certificate with the piece, not in a drawer.
