Lotus Macrame

A macrame wall hanging worked into a lotus. Macrame is knotting rather than weaving, all of it done by hand, which is why the texture reads as depth and shadow on a wall in a way a printed hanging never quite does.

The lotus roots in mud and opens above the water, which is why it turns up as the symbol of clarity coming out of a mess in Hindu and Buddhist practice alike. It is a gentler thing to hang over a meditation corner than anything with a face on it.

Good to Know

Knotted cotton cord, handmade. Hangs from a single hook, so it goes up in a rented room without much damage. Cord relaxes over the first few weeks and the shape settles.
