Owl dreamcatcher

A small dreamcatcher with an owl worked into it. Owls hunt in the dark and arrive without sound, which is most of why they turn up in every tradition as the bird of night sight and of knowing something before it has been said.

It is the small one of the set. Good on a shelf, in a window, over a desk, or hung somewhere you would not put a ten inch hoop.

Good to Know

A small hanging piece. Handmade, so the exact feather placement and bead colors vary a little from one to the next.

The dreamcatcher comes from the Ojibwe, where the hoop and web were hung over a cradle and understood to catch what should not reach the sleeper. It spread to other nations through the twentieth century and into general use well beyond that. Ours are decorative pieces made for that wider market rather than ceremonial objects, and worth knowing the source of either way.
