Description
Two stones that do different jobs, strung together on purpose. Hematite is iron oxide, dense and metallic, and it is the anchor: heavy enough to feel, worked for staying in the body when your attention wants to leave it. Obsidian is volcanic glass with no crystal structure at all, and it is the edge: worked for cutting, for boundaries, and for seeing a thing as it is.
Hematite has been called the iron rose. It was polished into some of the earliest mirrors, painted onto faces before battle, and ground into the red ochre of cave paintings. Obsidian was knapped into blades everywhere it occurred.
The pairing is weight and edge. Ground first, then cut. That order is the whole logic of the piece and it is why these two get strung together rather than worn as two separate bracelets.
