Description
Bloodstone is dark green chalcedony with red iron oxide inclusions, and its older name is heliotrope, sun turner, from a Greek belief that the stone turned the sun's reflection red when dropped into water. The Christian legend that displaced that name is grimmer: that the red came from blood falling on green jasper at the foot of the cross. Both names are still in use.
Whatever you call it, the reputation is martial and it is old. Bloodstone was the soldier's stone across the classical world, carried for nerve rather than for luck.
Modern practitioners work it for endurance, for the courage that gets asked for over weeks rather than seconds, and for grounding during a fight you did not choose.
