Shamanic Opossum Bone & Feather Necklace | Adaptation

Description
A locally harvested opossum bone with blue feathers, set in electroformed copper on a leather cord. Electroforming grows the copper onto the piece in a bath rather than casting or soldering it, which is why the metal follows the shape of the bone exactly.

The opossum half is about going still. Playing dead is not a decision the animal makes, it is an involuntary catatonic reflex complete with a smell of decay, and it works because most predators want to have made the kill themselves. Practitioners read it as strategy, patience, and knowing when not to act.

The feather half is the opposite instruction. Feathers carry messages in most traditions that use them, and blue puts that at the throat: speaking, being heard, getting something said. Together the piece holds still and speaks, which is a harder combination than either one alone.

Why Copper
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body, and its name runs straight back to Cyprus: the Romans called it cyprium, metal of Cyprus, which is also the island Aphrodite came ashore on. That is where the Venus association comes from, and it is a better reason than most. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver.

How to Wear It

• A statement piece. Wear it on a plain neckline and let it be the thing.
• Feathers are delicate. Store it hanging rather than in a box.
• Bone and leather both dislike water. Take it off before a shower.

Bone is locally harvested from a ten acre property in Texas. Every piece is different because every bone is, so the one you receive will not match the photograph exactly. Feathers are ethically sourced.
