Snake Earrings with Smoky Quartz | Shed & Ground

Description
Locally harvested snake vertebrae with smoky quartz, on copper with crescent moons. Snakes carry between two hundred and four hundred vertebrae, each one a small interlocking joint, which is what lets an animal with no limbs move in every direction at once.

Smoky quartz gets its color from radiation. Trace aluminum sits in the quartz lattice, natural radioactivity in the surrounding rock knocks electrons loose over geological time, and the damaged sites absorb light in a way that reads brown. It is the national gem of Scotland, where it is called cairngorm.

The pairing is deliberate. Shedding is the exciting half and grounding is the half that makes it survivable: smoky quartz is worked for putting a thing down into the earth rather than carrying it better. Leave the skin, and do not float off afterward.

Why Copper
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body, and its name runs straight back to Cyprus: the Romans called it cyprium, metal of Cyprus, which is also the island Aphrodite came ashore on. That is where the Venus association comes from, and it is a better reason than most. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver.

How to Wear It

• Wear them while you are letting something go rather than after.
• Clear the quartz in running water. It takes a lot on.
• Bone is porous. Keep them dry and away from perfume.
