Scarab & Labradorite Necklace | Rebirth & Inner Sight
Description
Description
A scarab with labradorite beading, in electroformed copper on a leather cord. The copper is grown onto the piece in a plating bath rather than cast, so it takes the shape exactly.
The scarab is a dung beetle, and Egyptian practice took it seriously for a reason that is easy to miss. The beetle rolls a ball of dung across the ground and buries it, and new beetles emerge from the buried ball. To an observer with no idea about eggs, that is life appearing out of waste and darkness. Khepri, the morning form of the sun god, is a scarab, and the name comes from a verb meaning to come into being.
Labradorite is the other half of the argument. Its flash comes from light interfering with itself between microscopic internal layers, and it appears only at particular angles, which is a fair description of how insight tends to arrive. Rebirth and the ability to see it coming.
Why Copper
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body, and its name runs straight back to Cyprus: the Romans called it cyprium, metal of Cyprus, which is also the island Aphrodite came ashore on. That is where the Venus association comes from, and it is a better reason than most. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver.
How to Wear It
- Wear it while something is being rebuilt rather than after it is done.
- Turn the labradorite in the light. The flash comes and goes with the angle.
- Leather and water do not get on. Take it off before a shower.
