Green rutilated quartz usually is not rutile. True rutile inclusions are golden or coppery; the green needles sold under this name are generally actinolite or chlorite. The stone is real, the effect is the same, and the trade name is loose. It gets worked for protection from small, deliberate harm: the person in your workplace or your family who means it.

The snake half is about a specific moment. Before a snake sheds, a fluid layer forms under the old skin and the eye caps go milky blue, and for several days the animal is close to blind and hides. Then it rubs its nose against something rough, catches an edge, and walks out of the whole skin inside out. The instructive part is not the new skin. It is that you cannot see clearly right before it happens.

Why Copper
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body, and its name runs straight back to Cyprus: the Romans called it cyprium, metal of Cyprus, which is also the island Aphrodite came ashore on. That is where the Venus association comes from, and it is a better reason than most. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver.

How to Wear It

• Wear them through the part where you cannot see clearly yet. That is the point of them.
• Good for anyone leaving something they have outgrown.
• Bone is porous. Keep them dry and away from perfume.
