Description
Yooperlite is the newest stone in the case by a long way. A rockhound named Erik Rintamaki found the first ones in June 2017, walking the Lake Superior shoreline in Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a UV light, and a university lab confirmed and named the material the following year. In daylight it is a plain gray beach stone. Under longwave ultraviolet the sodalite group mineral running through it flares orange and the whole rock looks like it has lava seams in it.
The name comes from Yooper, what people from the Upper Peninsula call themselves. It is a Michigan stone with a Michigan name and it did not exist as a category ten years ago.
Practitioners work it for the thing it plainly does: what is in there is in there whether or not the light is on it. It gets reached for around speaking up, around telling the truth about something, and around work where the job is to see what is already present rather than to add anything.
How to Wear It
- Get a UV flashlight. Without one you are wearing gray beads and missing the point.
- Wear it to the conversation you have been putting off.
- Charge it in moonlight if that is your practice. Sun will not hurt it.
Wear It With
See the Yooperlite wolf and read why crystals actually work.
Round 4mm beads on a stretch cord, sized to fit most adult wrists. Fluorescence varies bead to bead, so some catch far more of the UV than others.
