A winged scarab in polymer with a patina finish, four inches, and finished on both sides, so it works standing in the middle of a space rather than against a wall.

Egyptians watched dung beetles roll a ball along the ground and produce young that seemed to come out of nothing, and built a god out of it: Khepri, the morning sun, rolled up over the horizon the same way. The verb kheper means to come into being. The beetle is not a symbol of rebirth so much as the word for it, made into an animal.

The scarab is the commonest amulet Egypt ever made, and its funerary form is the heart scarab, laid over the chest of the dead and inscribed with a spell asking the heart not to speak against its owner at the weighing. The better part of two thousand years of people asking to be judged gently.
