This is amethyst the way it came out of the ground in India, unpolished and unshaped. Raw stone reads differently than tumbled. There is no smooth surface to slide your attention off of, so the piece keeps announcing itself. People who work with both tend to reach for raw when they want a stone to hold a position in a room, and tumbled when they want to carry something.

Amethyst has been the go-to stone for a quiet mind for a very long time. The Greeks tied it to Dionysus and to sobriety, which is a strange pairing until you understand they meant clarity in the middle of excess. That is still the job. Amethyst does not remove what is loud. It gives you somewhere to stand inside it.

Ways to Use It

Set a piece by the bed for sleep and dream work. Place one near a doorway as a quiet marker for what you will and will not let in. Build it into a grid as an outer anchor. Keep one on your desk if your work involves absorbing other people's moods all day, and rinse it under cool water at the end of the week.
