Description
Amethyst is quartz colored by iron impurities and natural irradiation, and heating it turns it yellow, which is where most commercial citrine comes from. The name is Greek: a, not, and methystos, intoxicated, and it was worn as an amulet against drunkenness. The story about Greeks drinking from amethyst cups is not supported by any surviving vessel, and Pliny, who records the belief, thought it was nonsense.
It was the crown stone of Christian bishops and it is the February birthstone, and until the Brazilian deposits were found in the 1800s it was priced alongside ruby and emerald. Abundance changed the price and not the reputation.
Worked for the third eye and the crown: dream recall, meditation that will not settle, and a mind that goes to the wrong places at night. It is the most requested stone in the shop and it earns it.
How to Wear It
- Keep it on the nightstand for dream recall, and put it on before you meditate.
- Sun fades amethyst badly. Never charge it in a window.
- Good for anyone starting a practice who does not know where to start.
