Description
Libyan Desert Glass is the purest natural glass known, around ninety eight percent silica, and it lies scattered across the Great Sand Sea on the Egyptian side of the Libyan border. It is roughly 29 million years old and how it formed is still argued about: either an impact melt or an airburst that fused the sand without leaving a crater.
The part worth knowing is that it was already valued once, a very long time before this shop. The scarab at the centre of the pectoral found on Tutankhamun is carved from it, which was only confirmed in 1998. Somebody carried a piece of that glass across the Sahara more than three thousand years ago and it ended up on a pharaoh.
It gets worked as a solar stone against moldavite's cooler charge, and it is often recommended as the gentler of the two impact glasses. These are large free form pieces in hammered settings with a Sun Tribe engraving.
How to Wear It
- A larger, heavier piece. It is meant to be the only thing you are wearing.
- Worked as a solar piece, so daytime rather than nightstand.
- Free form stone. Every one is a different outline and none of them match the photo exactly.
