Description
Hematite is iron oxide, and the name comes from haima, Greek for blood, because a hematite streak on unglazed porcelain comes off rust red no matter how silver the stone looks. Ancient people used it as pigment first: the red ochre in the Lascaux cave paintings is powdered hematite, which makes it one of the oldest materials humans have deliberately worked.
It is dense. Pick up a hematite bracelet next to a quartz one of the same size and the difference is immediate, and that weight is most of the practice. A grounding stone you can feel is doing something a grounding stone you cannot feel is not.
