Description
A crescent carved from natural amethyst on an adjustable cord. The crescent is the phase the moon spends most of its time in, which is part of why it became the shape people carve: the full moon is the exception, and the crescent is the ordinary condition.
Amethyst is quartz colored by iron and natural irradiation, and heating turns it yellow, which is where most commercial citrine comes from. The name is Greek for not intoxicated, and it was worn as an amulet against drunkenness. The story about Greeks drinking from amethyst cups is not supported by any surviving vessel, and Pliny, who records the belief, thought it was nonsense.
Worked at the third eye and crown: dream recall, meditation that will not settle, and a mind that goes to the wrong places at night. Wearing it at the throat rather than holding it makes it a background piece rather than a session tool, which suits it.
