Description
Genuine Baltic amber on a cord, earth mined, never pressed and never synthetic. A larger piece than the earrings, which means more of the interior is visible, and the interior is the interesting part.
Amber is fossilised conifer resin, roughly forty million years old, and it has preserved more of the ancient world than any rock has: insects, spider webs, feathers, flowers, a lizard here and there, all caught in resin that was running down a trunk and then buried. Most pieces hold nothing more than trapped air and flow lines, and those are worth looking at too, since they are a record of how the resin moved.
Baltic amber is chemically distinct from every other amber in the world. It carries three to eight percent succinic acid, which is the marker laboratories use to identify it, and its mineral name is succinite because of it.
How to Wear It
- Hold it up to a window. That is how you see what is inside.
- Keep it away from perfume, alcohol and solvents. Amber is soft and they mark it.
- Worn as a solar piece, so daytime rather than nightstand.
