Description
Amber is not a mineral. It is tree resin that seeped out of conifers around forty million years ago and then sat long enough to lose its volatiles and harden. Most of what reaches the market came out of the Baltic seabed, torn loose by storms and picked up on beaches afterward. It is light enough to float in salt water and it warms in the hand faster than any stone will, because it is organic.
That warmth is most of why people have worn it since the Stone Age. Amber beads turn up in northern European graves thousands of years before there was a trade route to carry them, and then the route existed, and the Romans called it the Amber Road.
It is worked as a solar piece: vitality, warmth in the ordinary sense, and the light coming back. Reached for in the stretch of weeks when it has gone out.
How to Wear It
- Keep it away from perfume, alcohol and solvents. Amber is soft and they mark it.
- Wear it in the months when the sun does not come out much.
- It takes on body heat and holds it. Notice that rather than ignoring it.
