A crescent moon in sterling silver holding a rainbow moonstone with blue kyanite set alongside it. Two stones with very different temperaments, which is the design.
Moonstone glows rather than sparkles. The sheen comes from alternating microscopic layers of two feldspars that separated as the crystal cooled, scattering light back from under the surface, which is why it seems to move as you turn it.
Kyanite is the odd one. It carries two very different hardnesses in the same crystal, around four to five along the length and six to seven across it, which is the most extreme case of that in any common stone and the reason lapidaries have opinions about it. It also carries the one reputation nobody else has: practitioners say kyanite never needs cleansing, that it does not hold onto anything. Whether or not you believe that, it makes for a low maintenance stone at the throat.
How to Wear It
- Aphrodite is a goddess of desire rather than romance. Wear it accordingly.
- The kyanite half is a throat stone, so it suits saying something you want.
- Charge the moonstone in moonlight. It will not need the kyanite charged at all.
