Amyris Oil | Quiet Wood, Kind to Sandalwood

Soft, warm and woody with a faint sweetness. Quieter than sandalwood, less dry than cedar, and it sits underneath a blend rather than leading it.

What It Is
Amyris balsamifera, steam distilled from wood. Grown in Haiti. Despite the trade name West Indian sandalwood it is unrelated to true sandalwood, which belongs to the genus Santalum and is under serious harvesting pressure.

In the Craft
Used as a meditation and grounding wood in much the way sandalwood is, and increasingly chosen on purpose because it does not draw on a threatened species. Its fixative quality means it holds a blend together and makes the other oils last longer.

How to Work With It

• Diffuse for meditation where you would otherwise use sandalwood.
• Add a drop to any blend you want to last longer on skin or in the air.
• Dilute and wear for grounding without a heavy earth note.
• Anoint a candle for quiet, sustained work rather than fast results.

Blends well with: cedarwood, frankincense, lavender, ylang ylang, patchouli
