12½ Woven Copper Ring | Venus Metal, Hand Woven

Description
A size 12½ ring woven from copper wire by hand, strand over strand. Nothing cast, nothing soldered into shape. Weaving is slow and it is why each of these comes out slightly different from the last.

Copper takes the weave because it is soft enough to bend repeatedly without work hardening the way silver does, and it holds a shape once it is set. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver, which is why practitioners have always described it as a conductor in their own sense too.

Why Copper
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body, and its name runs straight back to Cyprus: the Romans called it cyprium, metal of Cyprus, which is also the island Aphrodite came ashore on. That is where the Venus association comes from, and it is a better reason than most. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver.

How to Wear It

• Size 12½. Copper will not resize easily once woven, so check the size before ordering.
• The color will change with your skin chemistry. That is copper doing what copper does.
• Take it off for gardening and for anything abrasive. Woven wire catches.

Copper oxidizes. That is the metal behaving normally rather than a fault, and it will react to your own skin chemistry, so the piece darkens at its own pace. If it goes darker than you want, polish it with fine steel wool under running water and reseal with ProtectaClear, or clear nail polish at a pinch.
