Description
The story attached to amazonite is that it lined the shields of the Amazons, and like most stories about warrior women it cannot be sourced to anything. The name is more likely an error: stones brought back from the Amazon basin got called amazonite, and no deposit has ever been confirmed there. What is documented is that it turns up in Egyptian burials, Tutankhamun's included, cut into beads, inlay and amulets.
Mineralogically it is microcline feldspar, and the green comes from trace lead in the structure.
It is worked for saying the true thing without making it a weapon. That is the whole correspondence, and it is a narrow and useful one. Chips suit it: irregular, a little rough at the edges, which is roughly how honest speech arrives.
