Description
Real butterfly wings with crescent moons on 14k gold hooks. The wings are ethically harvested, which here means collected after the animal's own short life rather than taken for the piece.

What happens inside a chrysalis is stranger than the metaphor usually allows. The caterpillar does not grow wings; it releases enzymes that digest most of its own body into a fluid, and the adult is built from small clusters of cells that were held in reserve the whole time. Something of the old animal survives the process, though, because experiments have shown moths retaining what they learned as caterpillars.

That is the more useful version of the symbol. Transformation is not becoming somebody else. It is dissolving most of what you were built out of while something you were carrying all along does the rebuilding.

• Wings are fragile. Store them hanging and do not put them in a bag loose.
