Description
Dalmatian jasper is not a jasper. It is an igneous rock, mostly feldspar and quartz, and the black spots that give it the name are arfvedsonite, an amphibole. They get called tourmaline constantly and they are not that either. The trade name stuck because the rock looks like a dog, and because nobody was ever going to sell arfvedsonite bearing albite porphyry to a gift shop.
None of that makes it worse to work with. It is the stone you hand to someone who has gotten grim, and it does not pretend to be deep. The whole association is play, and specifically the return of play to a person who has been serious for too long.
Practitioners use it for inner child work, for shaking a bad mood loose, and for the kind of grounding that is not heavy.
