White Camphor Oil | Cold, Clearing & Old Magic

Piercing, cold and medicinal. It smells like a mothball drawer and an old apothecary at once, and it is unmistakable.

What It Is
Cinnamomum camphora, steam distilled from wood and then fractionated. White camphor is the lightest fraction and the only one considered safe for aromatic use; the brown and yellow fractions contain safrole and are not used in aromatherapy.

In the Craft
Camphor burns with a clean flame and no residue, which is why it is lit in Hindu arati and set alight on the tongue of the deity in temple ritual. It is worked for purification, for banishing, and for cutting through something that has settled and will not shift.

How to Work With It

• Diffuse briefly, in small amounts, for a hard clearing.
• Anoint a candle for banishing or uncrossing.
• Add a single drop to a floor wash for a deep reset.
• Use sparingly. This is the strongest smelling oil we carry.

Blends well with: eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, lemon, juniper

Use in small amounts and keep well away from children and pets. Not for use during pregnancy. Do not apply to skin without heavy dilution.

Camphor is one of the oldest ritual materials in Asia, burned in Hindu arati and used across Chinese and Japanese practice. The white fraction is the safe one to use.
