Description
A dog and a wolf howl at the moon from either side of a path, and a crayfish is hauling itself out of a pool at the bottom of the card. The dog is what has been tamed and the wolf is what has not, and the card puts them on equal footing on purpose.
The path runs between two towers and off into hills, and the moon in the picture has a face in profile with its eyes closed. Everything about the image is about not being able to see properly: moonlight is reflected light, it flattens depth, and it makes familiar things look like other things.
It gets pulled for illusion, for dreams and for the stretch of a situation where your instincts are working but your information is not. Practitioners read it as an instruction to keep walking and stop trusting the outlines.
