Ra Totem Patina

Ra is the sun itself rather than a god who governs it. He crosses the sky by day in a boat, goes down into the underworld at night, and there he has to fight the serpent Apep in the dark before he can come up again. Sunrise, in Egyptian thought, is not automatic. It is a battle that has to be won every single night.

That is what makes him worth having at eight inches rather than three. He is the god of beginning again on a schedule, whether or not you feel like it, which is most of what any daily practice actually asks.

Good to Know

8 inches tall. Polymer resin with a patina finish, so the color varies piece to piece. Handmade in Egypt, so each piece varies a little in color and finish. Packaged in a decorative hieroglyphic box with an information card, which makes it a reasonable gift without any extra wrapping.

How to Use It

A statue on an altar is not decoration and it is not a substitute for practice. It is a place to put your attention. Give it somewhere it will be seen daily rather than a shelf you dust twice a year, keep the space around it clear, and if you leave offerings, take them away before they spoil.
