Palo Santo Essential Oil 5 mL

Palo santo means holy wood in Spanish, and the name has been earned over a long time. Bursera graveolens grows across the dry forests of South and Central America, and it is a relative of frankincense and myrrh, which you can smell the moment you open the bottle. Warm, sweet, resinous, with a citrus edge that keeps it from going heavy.

It has been used in cleansing and prayer for centuries, and in most of those traditions the point is not to drive something out with force but to make a space pleasant enough that what is heavy no longer wants to stay. It is a gentler cleanse than white sage. If sage feels like opening every window in January, palo santo feels like lighting the stove.

Ways to Use It

Diffuse it before meditation or a reading to mark the shift between ordinary time and working time. Add a drop or two to a carrier oil for anointing before ritual. Put it in a spray with distilled water and a little witch hazel for a smokeless room cleanse, which matters if you rent, have asthma in the house, or share walls with someone who does not want to smell your practice. It is also a good oil for the car.
