Juniper Berry Oil | Threshold & Purification

Crisp, resinous and green, with the pine-and-gin sharpness the berries are known for. Cleaner than cypress and more bracing than pine.

What It Is
Juniperus communis, steam distilled from the berries, which are botanically fleshy cones rather than true berries. The same fruit that flavors gin.

In the Craft
Juniper is the purification and threshold plant across northern and central Europe, burned at doorways, in stables and in sickrooms. It is worked for clearing what should not have come in, for warding a boundary, and for marking the edge between one space and another.

How to Work With It

• Anoint a doorframe or a threshold for warding.
• Diffuse to clear a room that has taken on something unwelcome.
• Add to a floor wash swept from the back of the house outward.
• Anoint a candle for protection or hex breaking.
