Description

Twenty-five runes hand carved in lapis lazuli, with an information card and a velvet pouch.

The one with real history behind the material. Lapis came into the ancient world from essentially one source, the mines at Sar-i Sang in Afghanistan, and the Egyptians prized it above almost any other stone, cutting it for amulets and inlay and burying it with their dead. It is the most expensive set here by three dollars and the one that looks like an heirloom in the hand.
Worth knowing before you buy: lapis is the softest stone in this range, about 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. Keep this set in its pouch rather than loose in a bag with harder stones.

What You Are Getting

Twenty-five hand carved stones with an information card. Twenty-four of them are the Elder Futhark, the oldest runic alphabet, in use across Germanic Europe from roughly the second century. The twenty-fifth is blank.

About that blank rune. It is not ancient. Ralph Blum popularised it in The Book of Runes in 1982 and it has been in almost every commercial set since. Some readers use it for the unknowable and some take it straight back out of the bag. Both are defensible, and you should know which you are doing rather than find out mid-reading.
