Description
Ten millimetre matte black agate beads with a silver toned Mjölnir. The largest bead on the jewelry page and it wears like it.
The hammer is one of the few symbols in this shop with real archaeological weight behind it. Around a thousand Viking Age Mjölnir pendants have been found across Scandinavia and the Baltic, in silver, bronze and iron, and they became noticeably more common in the tenth century as Christianity spread, which several archaeologists read as people making a point. One mold from Denmark casts a hammer and a cross side by side, which tells its own story.
Black agate is chalcedony, usually dyed to reach a true matte black, and it is worked for grounding and for a steady nerve. Thor's hammer was for protection and for consecration, swung over a bride and over a newborn as well as at giants.
How to Wear It
- Wear it as a protective piece rather than an aggressive one. That was the older use.
