Description
Tiny drawstring pouches sewn from one hundred percent silk saris. That is the part worth knowing: these are not silk-look, and they are not new cloth. They are cut from saris that had a life first, which is why every pouch is a different color and pattern and why no photograph will match what turns up.

A sari runs five to nine yards of cloth and is traditionally never cut, so when one is finally retired there is a great deal of good silk to reuse. Small workshops across Nepal and northern India have built a real trade out of exactly that.

These are handmade in Nepal by fair trade partners, and the alternate pull strings are the mechanism: pull one pair and the mouth closes, pull the other and it opens. Colors are assorted and we ship a selection if you order more than one.
