Also sold as Grapple Plant and Wood Spider. Devil's Claw Root is traditionally worked with to guard against harmful energy and push out what no longer belongs. In folk practice, it is associated with firm boundaries and holding ground once a line has been drawn.
Plant Context
The root's gripping, claw-like shape has long been read as a signature of holding fast, taking hold of a boundary the way the plant's namesake pods take hold of whatever passes by.
In the Hand
Coarse, hooked root chunks with a bitter, earthy smell. The barbed shape is the whole point of it and reads plainly on an altar.
Work with it
Place at a threshold to hold a boundary at your home or shop, add to banishing sachets alongside black salt, use in floor washes meant to push out old, unwanted energy, or carry during confrontations where you need to hold your ground.
