Desert rose is gypsum, the same mineral as selenite, grown into flat blades that fan out like petals. It forms in dry ground where mineral-rich water evaporates and grains of sand get caught in the crystal as it grows. Every rosette is the record of a puddle that dried in a particular way, which is why no two are the same shape.

It is worked as a stone of the mind. Practitioners reach for it to quiet worry, cut down distraction and hold a decision steady long enough to act on it. Traditionally it is said to hold a guardian spirit, which is a nice thing to have on a desk.
