Description

Bastet in polymer with an antique patina, so she reads as aged bronze rather than flat black. The patina is worth the difference if she is going somewhere she will be looked at rather than somewhere she is on duty.

Bastet is the goddess of the household and also of music, dance and perfume. Her name is bound up with the bas, the alabaster ointment jar, which is a good reminder that Egyptian religion did not separate the sacred from the nice-smelling.

Herodotus said the festival at Bubastis drew the largest crowds in Egypt and involved a great deal of wine. Protection and pleasure in the same goddess, which is unusual and is most of why she is still the most popular Egyptian deity on any shop shelf.

Good to Know

Polymer with an antique patina finish. Every patina takes differently, so the depth of color varies more on this one than on the plain black.

Handmade in Egypt, so each one varies a little in paint and finish, and yours will not be identical to the photograph. Packaged in a decorative hieroglyphic box with an information card, which makes it a reasonable gift with no extra wrapping.
