Green, sweet and herbaceous with a soft anise edge. The smell of a basil plant rather than of pesto.

What It Is
Ocimum basilicum, steam distilled from the leaf, linalool chemotype. Not certified organic. The chemotype is the same as the organic bottle, which is the safety-relevant part.

In the Craft
The money and luck herb of Greek, Italian, Mexican and hoodoo practice. Kept at registers and scattered at thresholds to draw trade. Also protective, and in Hindu households holy basil stands as a guardian plant.

How to Work With It

• Anoint a candle for prosperity or business.
• Dress a wallet, register or business card with a diluted drop.
• Diffuse in a workspace for focus with a lift to it.
• Add to a floor wash swept toward the door.

Blends well with: bergamot, lemon, rosemary, lavender, black pepper
