Singing Bowl Round Sided 6in Flower of Life Purple

A round-sided bowl finished in purple, with the Flower of Life etched into it. Curved walls are the shape associated with a long sustain, and this is much the biggest of our three bowls, so it is the one that carries on humming for a while after you stop moving the striker rather than stopping the moment you do.

The Flower of Life is the overlapping-circle pattern that turns up on temple walls and in sacred geometry work from several traditions. On a bowl it does the job a mandala does: something for the eye to rest on while the ear does the work.

How to Play It

Tap the rim for a bell tone. For the hum, hold the bowl flat on an open palm rather than gripping it, and run the striker around the outside of the rim with steady even pressure. It builds over several passes. Squeezing the bowl kills the note, which is the mistake almost everybody makes first.
