Description

Three point eight inches, which turns out to be the sweet spot for most of what people actually grind. Enough for a single working, a censer, an evening's worth of resin. The narrower bowl keeps a small quantity under the pestle where you want it rather than letting it ride up and out, so you get a finer grind with less chasing.

It is also small enough to keep on the altar permanently instead of fetching it from a cupboard, which for a tool you reach for often is worth more than capacity.

Details

Three point eight inches across, cast iron, bowl format, matching pestle included.

Ways to Use It

Resin, seed, chips of dried root, small amounts of bark. Anything you want worked fine rather than fast. Chill gummy resin briefly before you begin and it breaks down far more willingly under the pestle.

Try It With

Try it with Cascarilla, or pull something off the Resin Incense collection. If you regularly grind more than a palmful, the 4.5 inch bowl saves you a step.

Care

Dry it fully every time, and season it occasionally with a thin coat of oil baked on at low heat. Bare iron will darken tannin heavy material like oak bark and black tea.
