These are small enough to sit on a working altar rather than dominate a room, and heavy enough that they do not feel like ornaments. Every one of the twelve is described below, so you can read before you choose rather than after.

Amun
The Hidden One, King of the Gods

Amun's name means the hidden one, and that is the whole of him: a god of air and breath and of what cannot be seen. He began as a local Theban deity and rose to become the greatest god in Egypt, with a temple complex at Karnak that is the largest religious site of the ancient world. Invoke Amun for what works out of sight, for patient influence, and for power that does not need to announce itself.

Ra
The Sun Itself, Creator and Judge

Ra is the sun, and not a metaphor for it. He sails the sky in a boat through the day, descends into the underworld at night, and fights the serpent Apep in the dark hours so that morning can happen at all. Every sunrise in Egyptian thought is a victory that had to be won again. Invoke Ra for vitality, for authority, and for the discipline of beginning again every single day.

Isis
Goddess of Magic, Motherhood & Healing

Isis is one of the most powerful and complete goddesses in the ancient world, a master of magic so great she could resurrect the dead, a devoted mother who protected her son Horus against all forces, and a healer whose knowledge surpassed that of all other gods. She gathered the scattered pieces of Osiris and breathed life back into him through sheer magical will. Osiris
God of the Afterlife, Death & Resurrection

Osiris presides over the underworld and the judgment of souls, but his most striking story is one of death and return, murdered, scattered, and resurrected through the devotion of Isis. He governs the transition between worlds and the promise that what dies can be reborn. As lord of the dead he is also the lord of fertility and the eternal cycle of life. Invoke Osiris for ancestral work, transitions, death rites, resurrection energy, and the deep magic of renewal through loss.

Anubis
God of Embalming, the Dead & the Weighing of the Heart

Depicted with the head of a jackal, Anubis was the original lord of the dead before Osiris rose to prominence, and he remained the sacred guardian of the embalming process and the guide of souls through the underworld. It was Anubis who weighed the heart of the deceased against the feather of Maat to determine their fate in the afterlife. He is a protector of the dead and a fierce guardian of sacred thresholds. Maat
Goddess of Truth, Justice & Cosmic Order

Maat is not simply a goddess, she is the principle upon which all of Egyptian civilization was built. She embodies truth, justice, harmony, and the cosmic order that keeps the universe from collapsing into chaos. Her feather was the standard against which every human heart was measured after death. Without Maat, nothing in heaven or earth could function. Invoke Maat for justice, truth, ethical clarity, balance, and the restoration of order in situations where chaos has taken hold.

Bastet
Goddess of Home, Cats, Fertility & Protection

One of Egypt's most beloved goddesses, Bastet began as a fierce lioness deity and evolved into the graceful cat goddess who protected homes, families, and women's secrets from evil spirits and misfortune. Her festival at Bubastis drew worshippers from across Egypt in joyful celebration of music, dance, and abundance. She is a guardian of the innocent and a fierce protector of those she loves. Sobek
God of the Nile, Strength & Protection

Depicted with the head of a crocodile, Sobek governed the Nile river, its power, its flooding, its life-giving force, and was believed to protect people from the very creatures that made the river dangerous. Priests kept sacred crocodiles in his temple pools and mummified them with full honors upon death. He is a god of raw strength, primal power, and protection through force. Invoke Sobek for strength, protection against danger, fertility of the land, and command over powerful natural forces.

Thoth
God of Writing, Wisdom, Magic & the Moon

Thoth is the scribe of the gods, depicted as an ibis or baboon, who invented language, hieroglyphic writing, and the very system by which knowledge is preserved and transmitted. He recorded the results of the weighing of the heart ceremony, regulated the celestial bodies, and possessed knowledge of magic that no other god could access. He is both advisor and keeper of cosmic secrets. Invoke Thoth for wisdom, writing, communication, magical study, and the pursuit of hidden knowledge.

Sekhmet
Goddess of War, Destruction & Healing

Sekhmet is the Eye of Ra, the fiercer, burning aspect of solar power let loose. A lioness goddess of war and destruction, her breath was the hot desert wind and her wrath could bring plague and devastation. Yet she is equally a goddess of healing, called upon to ward off disease and heal the sick, the same force that destroys can also restore. She is not to be invoked carelessly. Invoke Sekhmet for fierce protection, the destruction of obstacles, healing of serious illness, and the reclamation of power after violation.

Hathor
Goddess of Love, Beauty, Music & the Afterlife

Hathor is one of Egypt's oldest and most complete goddesses, she embodies love, beauty, music, dance, and motherhood, and was the divine mother to the pharaoh himself. She welcomed the setting sun each night and was believed to greet the souls of the dead in the same way, with warmth, beauty, and welcome. She is joy made divine. Invoke Hathor for love, beauty, creative expression, music, celebration, fertility, and the gentle guidance of souls across any threshold.

Horus
God of the Sky, Kingship, Protection & Victory

Horus is the falcon god of the sky whose eyes are the sun and the moon, one lost in battle with Set and later restored by Isis, becoming the sacred Eye of Horus, one of the most powerful protective symbols in all of Egyptian magic. He is the rightful king, the protector of the living pharaoh, and the divine embodiment of justice and victory over chaos. Invoke Horus for protection, victory, justice, leadership, healing of the eyes, and the restoration of what has been taken.

How to Use It

A statue on an altar is not decoration and it is not a substitute for practice. It is a place to put your attention. Give it somewhere it will be seen daily rather than a shelf you dust twice a year, keep the space around it clear, and if you leave offerings, take them away before they spoil.
