Basil Oil | Prosperity, Luck & Sharp Focus
Description
Green, sweet and herbaceous with a soft anise edge. Brighter and less medicinal than you expect from a culinary herb.
What It Is
Ocimum basilicum, steam distilled from the leaf, linalool chemotype. Chemotype matters here: the methyl chavicol type of basil carries real safety concerns, and the linalool type is the one considered safe for topical use.
In the Craft
Basil is worked for money, luck and business across Greek, Italian, Mexican and hoodoo practice alike. Shopkeepers keep it at the register, and it is scattered at thresholds to draw custom in. It is also a protective herb, particularly in Hindu tradition where holy basil is a household guardian.
How to Work With It
- Anoint a candle for prosperity or business work.
- Diffuse in a workspace when you need to focus and stay upbeat.
- Dilute and dress a wallet, a register or a business card.
- Add a drop to a floor wash swept toward the front door.
Blends well with: bergamot, lemon, rosemary, lavender, black pepper
Certified Organic. USDA Certified Organic, which means no GMOs, no synthetic fertilizers, and soil free of prohibited substances. Buying certified organic also supports the biodiversity of the land it was grown on.
Safety. For external use only. Essential oils are highly concentrated: always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact and patch test first. Never take internally. Keep away from children and pets. Ask a qualified practitioner before use if you are pregnant, nursing, or managing a medical condition.
Why We Carry It
Basil is the money herb across more traditions than almost anything else. The linalool chemotype is the gentle one, and the only basil worth having on skin.
