Description
Labradorite was described in 1770 from the Isle of Paul off Labrador, and the effect it is famous for is named after the place: labradorescence. The stone separated internally as it cooled into fine alternating layers of two feldspars, and light bouncing between those layers interferes with itself. How thick the layers are decides whether you get blue, gold or green.

The practical consequence is that a labradorite only flashes at certain angles. Turn a handful under a lamp and a third of them will light while the rest look gray. That is normal, and it is why these are worth picking up and rolling rather than looking at from one position.

It is worked as a shield that is also a window: what people wear or carry when they want to stay perceptive without being permeable, which is the actual problem most people mean when they describe themselves as sensitive.
