Labradorite was described in 1770 from the Isle of Paul off Labrador, and the flash is named after the place: labradorescence. The stone separated internally as it cooled into fine alternating layers of two feldspars, and light bouncing between those layers interferes with itself. Layer thickness decides whether you get blue, gold or green.
