Opossum & Snake Earrings | Two Ways to Survive

Locally harvested opossum bone paired with a snake rib on copper hoops. Two animals with two entirely different answers to the same problem, which is the reason to put them on one pair of earrings.

The opossum plays dead. It is not a decision, it is an involuntary catatonic reflex that comes with a smell of decay, and it works because most predators want a kill they made themselves. The strategy is to become not worth it.

The snake sheds. It grows a new layer underneath, its eyes cloud over for a few days while it does, and then it walks out of the old one. The strategy is to leave the part that no longer fits.

Go still, or go new. Most situations want one of the two and it is worth knowing which one you are in.

Why Copper
Copper is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body, and its name runs straight back to Cyprus: the Romans called it cyprium, metal of Cyprus, which is also the island Aphrodite came ashore on. That is where the Venus association comes from, and it is a better reason than most. It is also the second best electrical conductor there is, after silver.

How to Wear It

• Wear them while you are deciding which of the two the situation wants.
• Good for shadow work and for anything you are in the middle of leaving.
• Bone is porous. Keep them out of long water and away from perfume.
