Opossum Bone Necklace | Adaptability & Survival
Description
Description
A locally harvested opossum bone on a brass chain and hoop. Simple, and the animal is more interesting than the piece lets on.
The Virginia opossum is the only marsupial living north of Mexico, and it got here the hard way. Its family evolved in South America while that continent was an island, and walked north once the Isthmus of Panama closed about three million years ago. Very little that made that crossing northward is still around. This one is, and it has pushed its range further north every decade since.
That is the association worth carrying: not cleverness, endurance through change.
Practitioners work opossum for strategy, for surviving by not being worth the trouble, and for the kind of resourcefulness that finds a way with whatever is lying around. It is an unglamorous animal with a genuinely astonishing track record.
How to Wear It
- Wear it for the long survival rather than the dramatic escape.
- Good for anyone rebuilding after something.
- Bone is porous. Keep it out of long water and away from perfume.

Bone is locally harvested from a ten acre property in Texas. Every piece is different because every bone is, so the one you receive will not match the photograph exactly.
