Pyrite Rough Natural
Description
Description
Rough natural pyrite, sold by weight. Pyrite grows in cubes, and it grows them so precisely that the first people to dig them out assumed somebody had cut them. That is the crystal system doing it and nothing else.
The name is Greek for fire stone, because a struck piece throws a spark, and that is what it was used for long before it was used for anything else. Fool's gold came later, from prospectors who kept finding the wrong yellow metal. The two are easy to tell apart once you know: gold is soft and heavy and pyrite is brittle and light, and pyrite leaves a greenish black streak while gold leaves gold.
Worked for confidence, for prosperity that comes from doing the work, and as the standard stone to keep where money is handled. A bulk lot is the practical way to buy it if you are building grids or filling a shop bowl.
