Description
Tara is the best loved of the female buddhas in Tibetan Buddhism, called the mother of all the buddhas and the one who ferries beings across. Where compassion elsewhere can be pictured as serene and still, Tara is compassion in a hurry.
The posture says it. Her right foot is stepping down off the seat rather than folded in, because she is about to move. Her right hand rests open on the knee in the gesture of giving, and her left holds the stem of a lotus that opens by her ear.
Good to Know
About 4.25 inches tall and 3.25 wide. Cast resin with a turquoise antique finish, so the color sits in the recesses and the raised detail stays pale. Dust it with a soft dry brush rather than a cloth, which will catch on the detail.
